For your convenience, we have already placed a form letter into the message box, simply outlining that you are opposed to the Congestion Tax and for what basic reasons your elected officials should oppose it. I am a deeply concerned American who wants to ensure that the streets of Manhattan remain free for all--drivers and pedestrians alike.  Therefore, I urgently demand that you OPPOSE the adoption of any CONGESTION TAX on our streets.

The congestion taxation plan, as now proposed in the legislation that has been introduced in Albany, is simply a bad deal for New Yorkers and other Americans who have to drive to Manhattan to work for a living, for medical visits, for picking up their children from school, for purchasing or delivering goods or services, or for simply traveling around their own city for any reason!

The tax system mentions that drivers will have to pay at least $2,000 extra a year to drive into the Tax Zone (and trucks at a whopping $5,000 a year)!  Yet, statistics show that middle class individuals and families, as well as flourishing small businesses and non-profits will be hurt the most!  This is single-handedly one of the worst tax plans in history, especially since we have already paid for our streets!

The flaws in this particular method of taxation and its promises have been stated time and time again, and yet have not been addressed in good faith.  Genuine alternatives have been proposed but resoundingly ignored.  People, like myself, who will be impacted by this tax along with the rest of New York City, have spoken loud and clear that we do not want it, we do not see any guarantee or benefit in it, and we are the clear majority of your constituency.

But now, we have no direct say in the matter and are left to be represented by you alone, which is why I, my friends and neighbors have been monitoring very closely who votes in favor and who votes against.  We will remember in November who represented us correctly in this matter.

So, once again, please be sure to OPPOSE the adoption of the CONGESTION TAX and urge your colleagues to do the same.
