Congestion Tax Planning Commission Has Been Appointed

The 17 member New York City Traffic Congestion Mitigation Commission has been appointed by Governor Spitzer. This is the list, announced in a Mayoral press release, and it seems (not surprisingly) that the membership indicates a predetermined tilt in favor of a congestion tax. U.S. DOT Announces $354 Million for Transit, Only $10 Mil. for Congestion Tax

The U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded New York City $354 million to initiate congestion pricing, including purchasing and installing equipment to impose the tax on drivers.
However, in order to access most of these funds, the State legislature must authorize the Mayor of New York City to tax drivers under this scheme by March 2008.

Mayor Mike Thinks Mass Transit Is Good Enough For Everyone Else, But Not Quite Good Enough for Him

Apparently, rather than walk to the 77th Street subway station from his 79th Street townhouse, a five minute walk according to the Times, he has two massive gas-and-ethanol-guzzling Chevy Suburban SUVs drive him down to the 59th Street subway station.
